THE BASICS__________________

Souls are the physical states of energy that give life to various beings. They can be thought of as batteries, powering whatever body they are placed within. In most cases, souls are as essential as organs for living beings to function.Souls were originally created from Nothing by the deities, who condensed pure energy into a physical form capable of creating living things. Since then, deities have made the process natural, and a new soul is automatically created from the dimension's energy when a being is born. There are occasional glitches where a new soul is not created, and the soul of a recently deceased being is used instead. This rare process is known as reincarnation, and those with reincarnated souls may retain some memories of their past life.

Despite being similar in appearance, souls are made of different amounts of energy depending on the dimension in which they're created. For instance, species that have powerful abilities require stronger souls than those that don't. For this reason, souls are rarely interchangeable between different species of beings.The mind, body, and soul work together to keep a being alive. While a soul's main purpose is to give life and power a body, souls also communicate directly with the brain, keeping track of memories, personality, and other traits of a being. A brain might forget these details over time, but a soul will hold onto them. Despite keeping track of this information, a soul will be unable to recall it on its own, as a brain is required for proper memory processing.

THE UNDERWORLD______________

The realm of souls, otherwise known as the Underworld, is a one-way destination for souls no longer tied to a body. When a body becomes inhabitable-- most commonly when a being dies-- the soul is ejected and instantly pulled into the Underworld. Once a soul enters, there is no known way to leave.This unique dimension is similar to a black hole, void of all substance and a deathtrap for all non-soul beings. Upon entry to the dimension, one would be immediately eviscerated, unable to survive the hazardous atmosphere and harsh conditions.The Underworld is as old as the deities, but it has no creator and no resident deity. That said, unfortunate souls may encounter a large, mighty horrorterror by the name of Vauxius. Thought to be the remnant of a once-powerful being, they mercilessly feed upon souls and other horrorterrors to obtain energy and grow more menacing.

SOUL USAGE__________________

Through the use of simple soul manipulation, souls can be used in many different ways. While a majority of these scenarios are uncommon and unnatural, they're nevertheless possible.> Common Usage
A soul's default purpose is to power its respective body. As a majority of species cannot manipulate souls, this is the most common and most natural situation for a soul to be in.

> Soul Ownership
Most frequently exhibited by demons, it's possible for one being to own the soul of another. Having possession of one's life force gives the soul owner complete control over a being. One whose soul is owned by another being can be identified by a discolored eye linking them to their soul owner. This link connects the beings and their energies to each other.

> Soul Swapping
Replacing one's soul with another belonging to the same species would create an amalgamation of the two beings. One would experience new personality traits and memories stored within the soul, having effectively lived two lives. While this is a suitable condition physically, it can have adverse side effects on one's mental health.

> Interspecies Soul Swapping
Replacing one's soul with a soul belonging to another species would likely spell disaster. Because souls have varying levels of energy made to power different bodies, not all souls are compatible. Putting a soul that is too strong or too weak into an incompatible body will backfire indefinitely, and in most cases lead to death.

> Body Sharing
Similar to soul swapping, should more than one soul inhabit the same body, a being would experience thoughts, feelings, and memories belonging to other beings, but on a near constant basis. Uniquely, souls would constantly struggle against one another for control over the body.

SOULLESSNESS________________

Soullessness is the uncommon state of having no soul, for one reason or another. While the majority of beings require them to live, some beings are soulless by nature. Synthetic species such as androids and titans function properly without the use of a soul. Likewise, deities are made up of limitless energy, and therefore have no need for souls.For organic, soul-bound beings, becoming soulless is practically a death sentence. Without a soul, one's mind and body cannot function properly. Thoughts, feelings, and memories will fade away as the brain becomes weaker, and the body will become frail as it loses energy. Eventually, the body will shut down completely, resulting in death.

Theoretically, one might be spared from the catastrophic effects of soullessness if they were to quickly reacquire a soul. Regaining a soul shortly after becoming soulless would yield side effects associated with soul swapping, but one would nevertheless survive. However, the likelihood for a soul to accept a soulless body decreases over time, as the body slowly becomes less and less habitable. A soul given to one who has been soulless for days or longer may reject the body, deeming it unfit for use.

Note that these are just some preferences and very loose guidelines to submitting a character. Please do not feel limited by this list; if you have an awesome idea, go wild!

SPECIES!!!1_________________

There are currently eight different species of characters found in PDR. Each of them have different "rules" for creation, which can be found in detail by clicking below!Note that while species submissions are accepted, I've already designed all the "main" species for the comic. Any new species submitted to PDR will likely serve as side roles.

DESIGN!!!1__________________

It would be really helpful if you could keep your character relatively simple. This means simple clothing, hair style, and typically one color. Two colors is manageable, but in most cases really isn’t necessary.Be sure to cross-reference your design with the creation "rules" for your character's species to make sure it fits within the provided guidelines!Additionally, please DRAW the character you’re submitting. Even if you think you’re a terrible artist, a small doodle is WAY more helpful to me than a paragraph describing what they look like.

NAMES!!!1___________________

Obviously names are a waste of t?me, but if you want to give your character a title, that’s perfectly fine. Whether or not the title will be mentioned is up in the air, but a name will for sure not be.

QUIRKS!!!1__________________

A character's quirk refers to their unique speaking style. Try to come up with something creative and otherwise unused in the comic!Some useful mechanics for creating quirks include the following:
Replacement - using symbols or letters in place of another.
Ex. a=@ Wh@t on e@rth @re you doing there?
Addition/Subtraction - adding or removing letters to words.
Ex. t=tt Whatt on eartth are you doing tthere?
Prefixes/Suffixes - beginning or ending words or sentences with words or symbols.
Ex. prefix=Um, Um, what on earth are you doing there?
Emoticons - optional usage of emoticons while talking.
Ex. B-0 What on earth are you doing there? B-0
Syntax - letter case, punctuation, grammar, etc.
Ex. Uppercase WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING THERE?Mix and match these mechanics to come up with your character's special way of speaking! If you can’t come up with one, no worries; I’ll try to make one fit.Note that some species have required quirks! Please do not try to deviate from them without reason!

PERSONALITY!!!1_____________

A couple things will do fine, but feel free to add as many traits as you would like! The more fleshed-out you make your character, the more accurately I can write them into the world of PDR!

PURPOSE!!!1_________________

It's much easier to use a “blank character,” or more simply put, a character with no designated purpose. Giving your character a job, partner, or other specific circumstance is completely fine, but it may be harder to work them into the comic. Keep this in mind when thinking about what you'd like your character to do.

OTHER!!!1___________________

Any bonus information you might find relevant to add. For example, use this space to give your character a unique gimmick! Be creative!

EXISTING CHARACTERS!!!1_____

Unless you have a REALLY good reason/idea, please don’t make a character with the intention of having them interact with a character already in the comic. For instance, don’t say that your character is PDR Guy's sister or something.It is okay to express preference in who they may appear with, but this can delay the character’s appearance in the comic.
